History & Story
The Grand Ballroom - Elegance and the Labour Behind It
A grand ballroom was designed to impress. Its scale, light, proportions, and open floor would have allowed guests to gather, dance, converse, and be seen. In a historic house such as Stone Court House, this kind of room balanced elegance with status, showing that the building was not only a place of authority but also a place of culture and entertainment.
The phrase “the heart of daily service” reminds us that, behind every polished gathering, there was careful preparation. Furniture had to be arranged, fires lit, candles prepared, floors maintained, and refreshments served. The success of a ballroom depended on the hidden labour of the household.
Today, The Grand Ballroom allows visitors to imagine the room alive with movement, conversation, formal dress, and music, while also recognising the service and organisation that made such occasions possible.
Personal Restoration Note
The Grand Ballroom reminded us that restoration is also about joy. We wanted the room to carry the elegance of the past while still feeling ready for music, celebration, and the happiness of guests today.

Before & After - The Ballroom Ready to Celebrate Again
A bare floor and stripped walls returned to the scale, light, and open proportions the room was built for.

The ballroom as it was found, and the same arched doorway and open floor today, ready for music and celebration.
