The Grand Ballroom - Elegance and the Labour Behind It

A grand ballroom was designed to impress. Its scale, light, proportions, and open floor would have allowed guests to gather, dance, converse, and be seen. In a historic house such as Stone Court House, this kind of room balanced elegance with status, showing that the building was not only a place of authority but also a place of culture and entertainment.

The phrase “the heart of daily service” reminds us that, behind every polished gathering, there was careful preparation. Furniture had to be arranged, fires lit, candles prepared, floors maintained, and refreshments served. The success of a ballroom depended on the hidden labour of the household.
