History & Story

The Sky Chambers - Three Lives in One Remarkable Room

Dating from around 1820, the Sky Chambers reflect the refinement and confidence of the late Georgian period. While other parts of Stone Court House speak of law, service, and medieval survival, this room evokes the culture of assembly, hospitality, and polite society.

Over time, the room's purpose continued to evolve. Until recently, the Sky Chambers served as the Demirbasa family's private living room, a much-loved domestic space within the restored house. Its latest chapter has transformed it once again, this time into a licensed civil ceremony room for weddings, allowing couples to marry in a setting shaped by Georgian elegance, family life, and living heritage.

Today, the Sky Chambers brings together three layers of life: its late Georgian origins as an elegant ballroom, its recent role as the Demirbasa family's private living room, and its new purpose as a licensed ceremony space. Visitors can imagine music, candlelight, family evenings, and wedding vows all sharing the same remarkable room.

Personal Restoration Note

The Sky Chambers felt magical to us from the beginning. For a time, it was our family's private living room, filled with everyday life as well as history. Seeing it become a licensed civil ceremony room has been very special, because it means a space that was part of our family story can now become part of other families' most important memories too.
